FMCSA Stops Plan to Determine Accountability in CSA Crash Data

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration reversed course last week on its planned correction to the CSA safety enforcement system. The administration was close to proposing a system to determine the carrier's assessment of fault for a creash. Under the administration's proposal, the administration would have used the polic accident report and the carrier's statement to determine the carrier's crash accountability. Ann Ferro, the administrator of the federal motor carrier safety administration, said that the proposed approach was too limited because it did not allow the administration to consider any other people's statements in the administration's assessment of the carrier's accountability. For example, the proposed system did not allow the administration to consider the victim's statement or witnesses' statements when determining the carrier's accountability for the accident.
